Point clouds and models from drone imagery

Drones are a fantastic tool to access otherwise awkward or dangerous locations, particularly roofs, but they can produce far more than high quality imagery. A recent Levitate project involved generating a visual inspection of a roof that could otherwise only be accessed by scaffolding or a large cherry-picker, along with a 3D point cloud from which measurements could be taken. The project included the use of Ground Control Points, known coordinates in the spatial coordinate s

    NHS roof measurement made easy

Levitate was recently tasked to conduct a detailed roof inspection at an NHS facility in Sussex along with mapping of the site to help clarify the property boundary. Mapping of the site was achieved through programmed flight paths that generated over 500 high definition over-lapping images. These images were then merged to create a detailed orthomosaic map, from which area and distance measurements could be taken. The resulting measurements and map provided a level of insigh

    Drones for construction

It's always great to receive this kind of feedback for our 'Drones for construction' seminars, this time from Westbridge Construction who we ran a session for yesterday... "Excellent session. It was well delivered, concise yet detailed and clearly showed us the benefits of utilising drones, especially as our average project value increases". Estimator, Westbridge Construction Do get in touch if you'd like to know more about how drone data imagery, mapping & modelling can supp

Detailed roof data for PV installations

Levitate is one of the first drone companies in the UK to offer a new aerial roofing report which automatically identifies different roof and edge types, along with surface area, edge and perimeter measurements. The application was developed specifically with photo-voltaic solar developers in mind and means we can quickly, safely and cheaply deliver the data essential to PV installations, particularly more complex commercial developments. The outputs include a detailed roof d

    Latest customer review for Levitate

"This is just a note to thank you for undertaking the drone survey of the school. I really appreciated the professional approach and consideration to safety prior to and during the flight, especially as there were students outside at various times. The images are of very high quality, giving excellent views that we could not obtain in any other way, particularly the roof and guttering where we can see individual tile detail and identify areas that may require repair, and whi

5 reasons to use a drone for asset inspections

Asset inspections, whether for surveying, construction, energy, insurance or maintenance purposes, are often a time consuming, expensive and risky process involving equipment hire and putting workers in risky situations. Drones are beginning to challenge this way of working however, delivering faster, cheaper and safer inspection services along with higher quality data. Our top 5 reasons to use a drone for inspection are... 1. Reduce risk Drones remove the need to put workers

Drones: the surveyor's new best friend

Drones are proving a disruptive technology in a growing number of sectors, but no more so than in surveying. The ability to collect geospatial data (distance, elevation, direction) efficiently and safely and translate that data from high definition images to point clouds and 3D textured maps and models is proving cost effective compared to traditional methods, while delivering great results. Drones also avoid the need to send surveyors into risky or restricted areas, improvin
